Beyond the Cold:
A Four-Season Experience

A common myth among Indian medical aspirants is that Russia is permanently covered in ice. In reality, European Russia experiences a beautifully defined four-season continental climate with warm, pleasant summers and magical winters.

Most importantly, Russia possesses one of the world's most advanced central heating infrastructures. From hostels and lecture rooms to public libraries and metro stations, indoor temperatures are automatically maintained at a comfortable 20°C to 24°C throughout the colder months.

Centrally Heated Hostels: Constant warmth indoors.

Warm Summers: Temperatures reach 25°C to 30°C.

1. Don't Overpack from India

Winter wear designed in India is often not warm enough for Russian winters. It is highly recommended to buy your heavy down jackets, insulated boots, and thermals directly from Russia after you arrive. They are more affordable and specifically designed for the local climate.

2. The Rule of Three Layers

When heading outdoors in winter, follow the 3-layer system:
Base: Thermal innerwear (moisture-wicking).
Middle: Fleece jacket or heavy wool sweater (retains heat).
Outer: Waterproof, windproof down coat (insulates from elements).

3. Stay Hydrated & Moisturize

Cold air holds less moisture, and indoor central heating can be dry. Ensure you drink plenty of water, use good moisturizers and lip balms, and keep your room comfortable with simple indoor humidification tips.
